Welcome To Personnel Commission

  • The Personnel Commission at Pasadena Unified School District helps create an atmosphere of team work and fair employment practices to recruit, select, and retain a successful classified (non-teaching) workforce to help our students succeed.

An independent body composed of three persons appointed for three-year staggered terms, the Personnel Commission classifies positions, hear appeals of disciplinary and dismissal matters and protests involving examinations, selection and appointment procedures and prescribe rules related to a variety of personnel practices.

The Pasadena Unified School District has been a merit system district since 1979, under the provisions of Article VI of the California Education Code. A merit system is a method of personnel management designed to promote the efficiency and economy of service by providing for the selection and retention of classified employees, promotional opportunities, training, and other related matters on the basis of merit, fitness and the principle of “like pay for like work.” Merit systems were established for civil service jobs to guard against patronage appointments.
